That of renew the in 1776 failed Carleton's offensive from Canada down the Lake Champlain-Hudson line, in the spring of 1777. This renewed advance would have rendezvoused at Albany with an advance from New York City up the Hudson line, which would have carried on by Sir William Howe.
The plan had been proposed by Howe to Lord George Germain in November 1776 and aimed to split the north colonies from those of the south.
