Burgoyne took his time getting to Albany, walking about .5-1 mile a day. Since the Americans got message the he was coming, they built earthen works fortification to block his path. When Burgoyne reached the Americans, he retreated to a former army camp. There, there were attacked by the Americans who followed them and surrendered.
