Britain has 14 overseas territories although the majority of these have self-rule and only rely on Britain for defence or foreign relations.

These territories include: Anguilla, the British Antarctic Territory, Bermuda, the British Indian ocean Territory, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, St Helena and Dependencies (Ascension Island and Tristan da Cunha), the Turks and Caicos Islands, Pitcairn Island, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, and the Sovereign Base Areas on Cyprus

There are also the Channel Islands and Isle of Man which are known as crown dependencies and controversially, Northern Ireland which was created by the partition of Ireland.
