Europeans during the Middle Ages were only aware of the 3 connected continents they were part of: Europe, Asia, and Africa. they had no knowledge of what is now referred to as the Western Hemisphere, nor of the islands of the Pacific. Voyages of discovery where they encountered the Americas and Australia did not occur until the Renaissance and Antarctica was even later.
Not all Europeans broke with the fold of the catholic church.Mostly,Northern European is nation who broke from the Catholic church except Lithuania and Poland.The period when reformers attacked the teaching of the church was mostly during the end of the Medieval period and the Renaissance period.

They weren't necessarily upset during the Renaissance, but the events led to the Reformation, which was caused by the selling of Indulgences by the Catholic Church to aid in the rebuilding of St. Peter's Basilica.
Slavery expanded when Natives were forced to work for Europeans and Africans were shipped to the New World. This did not happen during the Middle Ages, however; it happened during the Renaissance.
The Europeans were inspired by the Greco-Roman times, so they created the Renaissance that helped to spread sophisticated culture throughout Europe. However, Northern Europe wasn't affected by the Renaissance until later on, when they got into Secularism (the principle that possessions are first to religion).
