Canada DID, and still DOES have a Parliamentary Democracy, with elected Members Of Parliament representing individual districts, or rydings. In an election, the local candidate that gets the most votes is elected, and takes their seat in the Federal house of Parlament in Ottawa. The Party that elects the MOST members forms the Government, while the other parties form the Opposition, whose job it is to question the Government on proposed new laws and policies that being suggested for consideration in Parliament. This has been the Canadian political system since the mid 1800's, and it is based on the British Parliamentary system.
