There were about 10 thousand different so called battles during the course of the US Civil War. Some were almost bloodless affairs, and a few were total carnage. The Battle at Glorietta Pass in New Mexico lacked major violence but deserves mention as a major Western event in the war. Both the Battle of Peralta and the Battle of Valverde are a few mile further West but they both lacked the casualties and significance that Glorietta Pass had. The Northern Division of the Army of New Mexico and the 1st Colorado Volunteers slugged it out with three Texas Cavalry Regiments. The casualties were about equal, but the Texans lost their supply wagons, mounts and artillery and were forced to walk home. The war in the West was over.
