Girl Guides undertook a variety of roles in both World Wars. Roles ranged from acting as volunteers to be saved during drills through to demonstrating cooking with rations. As with nowadays, girl guides maintained international links and in particular went into Europe after the war ended and supported troops and local communities.
Girl Scouts in the USA also kept guiding/scouting traditions and activities in internment camps. There are a fair few resources online which provide more detail on these activities.

In World War II, animals were used in various roles such as messengers, scouts, guards, and even for transportation. Dogs were commonly used for sentry duty and to carry messages, while horses were used for transportation of soldiers and supplies. Pigeons were also utilized for delivering messages in war zones.
