Pikes were the most common infantry weapon, although muskets and various types of single-handed swordsalso saw use.

Cavalrymen tended to carry wheelock pistols alongside their primary hacking and stabbing sword, although the low muzzle velocity of these weapons made it possible for even leather "buff coats" to stop some bullets.

Artillery also saw use as a battlefield and siege weapon. Light guns called falconets were sometimes wheeled into battle to provide covering fire for the infantry. Heavier field pieces were massed in batteries and fired on targets in volleys.

Oliver Cromwell's New Model Army made excellent use of these weapons, coordinating infantry, cavalry, and artillery very effectively in battle.
