New France was the early settlement that later became Quebec. Early missionaries came to convert the "aboriginals" to Catholicism. However they were generally unsuccessful and ended up supporting the education and lives of European settlers. Jewish immigrants came until the 1800's, when they were prevented from coming to Canada for a number of years. Later, British settlements became more populous and the French were a small part of the area.
