Also, much more sinisterly, the prisoners were told they would be allowed to shower, and locked into a fake showering facility, where they were gassed with hydrocyanic acid (Zyklon B). Many, but there is no way of counting them. There were many chosen methods, one popular one was called 'running to the wire', meaning killing one's self on the electric fence. The punishment for failing though was severe.
