Depends on the time period. In the 1700's EVERYONE was an immigrant. The only ones who weren't were the Native Americans. In that time they settled the 13 colonies and 48% were English farmers. There were others from Germany, Ireland, Sweden, Italy, and other places. As time went on millions came to the United States in the 1800's to find new lives and leave behind old worlds. They lived everywhere, made businesses, invented things, created neighborhoods, introduced music and foods to the Americans who were all ready settled. Over 60% of the soldiers in the civil war were Irish immigrants who signed up to fight as they came off the ships. Even today they add to the society and vibrancy of the United States.
