They have the largest population in the world, but India is right behind them. They both have over a billion people, at 1.3 and 1.2 billion, respectively (based on July 2015 numbers).

The European Union, by comparison, has less than half of either of those countries, at 513 million. The US has 321 million. Indonesia has 255 million, Brazil has 204 million, and Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Russia round out the top ten with 199, 188, 168, and 142 million, respectively.

All the rest of the countries have fewer people, and even collectively don't have as many as China and India. China has about 20% of the world's population all by itself.
