The Karabiner98k was used by the German Army from 1935 to 1945, probably a bit after that, as well. Russians took many after the war and they were in storage until the Soviet Union fell in 1991. After the State of Israel was founded, they bought many KAR98Ks for their own army. Today, they are used by civilian collectors and sometimes used by terrorist snipers in limited amounts.

WW2 ended in 1945. The AK47 was introduced in 1947, hence it's name. No. The '47' in the name indicates that the weapon was introduced in 1947. It was developed by Mikhail Kalashnikov of the Soviet Union. The assault weapon used during the Holocaust was the MP-40 machine pistol, or 'Schmeisser' as called by most Americans. The Germans issued about one million of these weapons, initially to paratroopers and squad leaders, but later to whole platoons. Most German soldiers were issued plain and dull Mauser Karabiner 98k kurz rifles. 14 million of these weapons were put into service. They were simple, straight, bolt-action rifles. These aren't usually depicted in films because they look too ordinary. The Sturmgewehr (StG 44) was introduced before the end of the war and had a passing resemblance to the Kalashnikov weapon. 425,000 of these were built and issued before the end of the war.
The Karabiner 98K was the standard issued rifle of Nazi Germany.

The most often used weapons in World War 2 were rifles, machine guns, artillery, and tanks. Rifles such as the American M1 Garand, the German Karabiner 98k, and the Soviet Mosin-Nagant were standard infantry weapons. Machine guns like the American Browning Automatic Rifle (BAR), the German MG42, and the Soviet DP-28 were vital for suppressing enemy fire. Artillery, including cannons and howitzers, were used for both defensive and offensive purposes. Tanks like the German Tiger and Panther tanks, the American Sherman tank, and the Soviet T-34 were crucial for armored warfare.
Gehrwehrs are longer than Karabiners, the bolt is pointed horizontally on Gehrwehrs, Karabiner's bolts are not, and the trigger is shaped differently.

The M1 Carbin is a semiautomatic carbine that has a magazine. It can hold from 10 to 30 rounds in each magazine. It was built in America and shoots a bullet similar to a pistol bullet, but a bit bigger. The KAR98K was built in Germany, it shoots an 8mm round (similar to a 30-06). It is bolt action and has a far longer range.
For an infantryman with standard issue equipment, they would generally carry a 9mm Luger and a Mauser rifle (Karabiner 98k), a bolt action rifle that held 5 cartridges at a time, while the Luger, I am not sure but most 9mm vary from 5 to 30 cartridges.Another gun that was used was the MP40 submachine gun, along with the MP43.The MG42 was also used as a light weight machine gun.The Germans were also issued Mauser bayonets and Steilhandgrenates, or German grenades.
