The very election of Jackson indicated a new democratic era in US politics.

Before Jackson all of the presidents lived in Virginia or Massachusetts and all were founding fathers, or in the case of J.Q. Adams, the son of a founding father, and all were from rich, well established families. Jackson was the son of two Irish immigrants with no family connections or family money. Jackson had gone West to make his fortune and so represented all of the people like himself, who started with nothing and went to the western frontier to eke out a living. Jackson saw the development of national political parties to choose national leaders rather than the closed aristocratic caucuses that had been used in the past.
