federalists wanted the constitution to remainn in its origanal state without the bill of rights. anti federalists wanted the bill of rights
Many states wanted a bill of rights but the first person to say anything about it to the delegates was James Madison from Virgina. Sieve that Virginia was the state who said it first.
The Bill of Rights guaranteed freedom of religion mainly. It put a "wall of separation between church and state" which is what Thomas Jefferson and James Madison (etc.) wanted.
It was written because the colonist wanted certain rights from England and the bill of rights stated 10 of them.
The Constitution was originally written with no amendments. The part before the Bill of Rights has everything about how to run a government and nothing guaranteeing the rights of any citizen. The antifederalists wanted a Bill of Rights to ensure the Constitution guaranteed rights to citizens.
