The Vikings raided all along the coasts of Western Europe, and up navigable rivers. They especially raided England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and France, but they went as far as Constantinople.

They began doing this on the coast of Northumbria at Lindisfarne in 793 and continued for another 200 years or so.

In Eastern Europe, they were highly regarded as merchant traders.
