Carl Hoppe, dob 21.9. 1910, passed away 1988. Famous as a Bavarian Kammersaenger, at the Bavarian State Operain Munich from 1948 until 1986. Carl Hoppe was the typical example of a belcanto baritone with a wonderful soft and yet powerful timbre which made him loved and respected throughout his career in many opera houses of Europe. His most famous interpretation of the cavatina of the Figaro of the Barber of Seville by Rossini is one of the best recorded ever and clearly demonstrates the outstanding interpretational skills best when sung in German. Carl Hoppe's repertoire reached across 100 in all classical and lyrical baritone roles of the classic, romantic and modern opera periods. His warm and often repeated belcanto interpretation of the 'Schoene Muellerin' and the 'Winterreise' by Franz Schubert, which he sang life on radio in the 1950ies, constituted once more his musical talents not only in opera but in the various song cycles of Wolff, Brahms, Strauss, Schumann etc. Carl Hoppe was an accomplished hunter and lover of nature and the environment and an outstanding personality. Carl Hoppe's focus was also his family with two children. Germany recognized his achievements with the Bundesverdienstkreuz.
