Bartan-Baghatur was the paternal grandfather of Genghis Khan (May 31, 1162? - August 25, 1227).
Specifically, Bartan-Baghatur was the father of Yesügei Baghatur (d. 1171). He was one (1) of seven (7) sons who could have succeeded his own father as head of the Khamag Mongol state on the Mongolian plateau. Instead, all were passed over in favor of Ambaghai Khan, a relative from the ancient Taichuud clan of central Mongolia.
