Sir Sagamore Le Deirous was a racing horse that participated in the Great Eastern Steeplechase in South Australia. During the race Simon Mills, the rider, made an awkward landing, fell out of the saddle, and his foot became caught in the stirrup. Undeterred, Sir Sagamore galloped on and dragged Mills like a rag doll over the next steeple. It wasn't until several yards afterwards, that his foot finally dislodged from the stirrup. Simon Mills ended up with a broken arm (due to Sir Sagamore landing on it with his back left hoof) and a couple bruises. Interestingly enough, the horse continued to race (as he was trained) and ended up in the third place position minus the rider resulting in disqualification. Sir Sagamore was later retired.

Another was that the fictional knights are the subjects of fiction people like to remember, but historic knights seem oddly less real. Nevertheless here are a few: Roland, the character of the Song of Roland, who was realSir William Marshal, 1st Earl of PembrokeSir William Douglas, who fought for Scottish independenceSir William Wallace, also a Scottish patriotKing Richard I of England, who was knighted by King Louis VII of FranceSir Thomas Mallory, remembered for writing Le Morte d'Arthur.Jean II Le Maingre, marshall of France during the Hundred Years' WarRodrigo Díaz de Vivar, Spanish knight remembered as El CidHugues de Payens, a founder of the Knights TemplarJacques de Molay, last Grand Master of the Knights Templar
