WW2 was fought basically by 2 groups, the Allies and the Axis powers. The English formed part of the Allies. Other countries in this group were America, France, and strangely, Russia. There were many other countries in this group that played smaller, but no less important roles, such as Greece, Belgium, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Holland and Poland. As the war progressed, and occupied countries were freed, they usually also joined the Allies, and gave any help they could.
