On the Mexican side, General Antonio de Padua Serevino Lopez de Santa Anna y Perez de Lebron. Known more briefly as Santa Anna, he was ruler of all Mexico at that time, including the rebellious Texas, and he personally led the Mexican Army at the Alamo.

On the Texan side, Colonel William Barrett Travis and Colonel James Bowie. Although Travis and Bowie disliked each other intensely, they agreed to command jointly at the Alamo, with Bowie leading the volunteers, and Travis leading the Texan Army regulars.
