Harry Truman, Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Vice-President, who took over in April 1945 when FDR died. He was informed of the U.S.'s capability to use the bomb soon thereafter, and labored over the decision. He opted for the actual use of the bomb rather than the display of force by detonating it in the Pacific as it was not guaranteed to go off when the event could be publicized, so her chose the most likely successful use to end the war, and the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6 of that year, Nagasaki three days later on the ninth.
