The four colonists who had disagreements with certain aspects of Puritanism were Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, Thomas Hooker, and John Wheelwright. Williams moved to what is now Rhode Island, advocating for the separation of church and state. Hutchinson also settled in Rhode Island after being banished for her controversial religious views. Hooker and Wheelwright eventually moved to Connecticut, where they sought greater religious and political freedom.
