You must understand that the German word "heil" is not the same as the English word "hail." It literally means "welfare" (as in safety). If we were to say "Heil Hitler," it would mean that we were ascribing salvation to him instead of to Jehovah. The Bible at Exodus chapter 20 tells us that God demands "exclusive devotion." This means that God will not surrender the worship that rightly belongs to Him, to any other person or thing. Since, as previously stated, the words "heil Hitler" means "salvation comes from Hitler," it goes in direct contrast to the word of God, which states that "Salvation [we owe] to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb."(Revelation 7:10)
Hitler modelled his 'Third Riech' on the Roman Empire. This can easily be seen in the classical building project which he embarked on. The open handed salute was copied from the Roman military salute. With the salute were spoken the words 'Sieg Hiel' which translated means "Hail to the call of victory" which was sometimes combined with a heel click.
As you no doubt know, Hitler persecuted many groups. Hitler was trying to make a "master race," and to do so, he felt that he needed to eradicate any who were deemed by him to be unfit. Jews, Blacks, Gypsies, Jehovah's Witnesses, Polish, homosexuals, and any who differed in political ideals than he did were persecuted. There is much information about the Holocaust at the U.S. Holocaust Museum's website at www.ushmm.org Being one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I have studied about Hitler's tirade against the Witnesses. Hitler attempted to stamp out the existence of my fellow Witnesses in Germany. The reason was that JW's all over the world had spoken out against Hitler. In fact, the organization's leaders had publically spoken out against Hitler even at the very beginning of his rise to power in the early 1930's, before the world at large had become aware of his schemes. In Nazi Germany Witnesses refused to perform the "Heil Hitler" salute. The reason, is because the phrase means, "salvation comes from Hitler." Jehovah's Witnesses believe that salvation comes from Jesus Christ. So therefore, they could not salute a man(Hitler) in this way. In the concentration camps, all a Witness had to do to be released, was to say "heil Hitler," and sign a document renouncing their faith. If they did that, they would be released, and would not face possible death in the camp. Only a handful of Witnesses succumbed to this temptation. The overwhelming vast majority refused, and many died for this. There is much more information, as well as personal testimony from survivors at the website I mentioned.jewish people
Using the Nazi salute was seen as some kind of privilege (!) and from 1938 onwards its use by Jews and most Slavs was forbidden. Its use by Poles was expressly prohibited and there were penalties for anyone who used it. Apparently, some Poles changed it to 'Geil Gitler' (something like 'Horny Hitler') and other mocking versions. Germans were also expected to sign letters with 'Heil Hitler' or with the words 'Mit deutschem Gruss' - which means 'With German greetings' (!) The use of the Nazi salute and 'Heil Hitler' was one of those things that made Nazi Germany look ridiculous abroad ...
The salute is made with the right hand over the heart, the standard civil, not military, flag salute.
A soldier who is physically unable to salute with his or her right hand may render a salute with the left hand.
If you're talking about Germany... Jehovahs Witnesses refused the nazi-salute and the military service (according to their religious belief). Therefore they were sent to concentration camps (where some of them died).
In Germany - - because they stood up against Hitlers war machine. They also did not 'bow' or 'salute / heil' Hitler.
No, Jehovah's Witnesses do not salute the American flag due to their religious beliefs.

Hitler adopted the stiff-armed salute for his troops from Benito Mussolini, who had copied the old Roman salute. Hitler went to the extreme had had civilian people punished who would not give the salute. The salute was not given to victory but was given with the verbal salute of "Heil Hitler". ________ Another theory I've heard is that he adopted Mussolini's fascist arm raise only because he had a hand-shaking phobia.

It's not High Hitler, it's Heil Hitler, which is a Hail, it's a salute.
Jehovah's Witnesses do not salute the flag because they believe that their allegiance belongs only to God, not to any earthly symbol or government. They see flag saluting as a form of idolatry and a violation of their religious beliefs.

Adolf Hitler introduced the opposite salute in 1935, the best thing to do is to talk to old german soldiers and use his salute in front of them, they will tell you the answer in more depth.
The Germans, that is why we salute Hitler statues everyday.
