Communism did NOT prevail in Vietnam, because communism is powerful, or better than other forms of government. For the purposes of the Vietnam War, communism was just a "name", the North Vietnamese could have been "Imperialists" or just "Attackers against their Neighbors over a territorial dispute". The "physical" reason for their victory was the ability to sustain war (supply line), by having two "Big Brothers" to protect them (Soviets & and Red China). The US did NOT want to fight the two big brothers (that would have turned the cold war into WWIII). The US could NOT cut those supply lines; without possible risk of fighting those two big brothers.
