BAby Killers
spit on troops coming home and call them baby killers
Many of us, especially those of us still in uniform, were called baby killers, had the tires slashed on cars. Some had their homes vandalized by people throwing eggs or tomatoes on them. You couldn't even go into a bar and have a beer without some freak coming up and slobbering on you. Some of our vets just went quietly home and tried to fit back in. I don't recall any crowds calling us heroes when our ships came in or airplanes landed. Like the guys from Korea, most Americans were just quiet about it but the vocal ones were very noisy and very offensive.
Treatment of Returning VeteransWW2 veterans were respected by the public, Vietnam veterans and were looked down upon by the public, mostly because the media was where it shouldn't have been. Untill several years latter of course, now the veterans of Vietnam are respected as well WW2 Veterans were greated with parades. Vietnam Veterans as well as Vietnam Era Veterans were spat at and called 'baby killers'.
This was a disparaging term applied to US soldiers because of incidents of both accidental and deliberate killings of children and infants (by both sides) during the Vietnam War. The term was used by the most vociferous opponents of the war, and was an undeserved epithet for the majority of the US military who served in a difficult conflict, often with ambiguous directions from their superiors.
they were called baby killers, war mongers, murders psychos and drug addicts

Sharon Tate's baby, a full term boy later named Paul, was not removed from his mother by the killers. One of the killers, Susan Atkins I believe, wanted to take the baby but thought there was not enough time. This may have been how the rumor started and to this day many people think the baby was cut out of Sharon.
