The French and Indian War was begun in 1754 when French troops were provoked by Indian attacks and expelled the colonial militia led by George Washington, which had entered the territory claimed by the French in the Ohio valley.

Note: This was the first time a colonial war provoked a continental war in Europe. It was already an English and French battle, so the conflict developed into the Seven Years War in Europe.
