The Battle of the Schelt was mostly fought by Canadians, even though it was to open the port of Antwerp, it was over shadowed by American and British operations. This was common throughout the war as the Canadians, although considered Elite, they were also considered "Commonwealth" and used to crack the channel ports. They were under supplyed and under re-enforced for the Schelt Operation but from the Breskin Pocket on they never lost a fight or lost ground. My Uncle was Captured in the Schelt by Elite Paratroops and has told of his experiences since we were kids.my father was still in Italy! I feel that it was under rated probably because it wasn't Patton! B.W Martin Couitlam British Columbia Canada
This was a battle of the American Civil War so its place under "English History" is not really correct. The Union forces retreated after failing to take the bridge guarded by the Confederates under Brig Gen William Miller
The Allied victory of the Battle of Château-Thierry on 18 July 1918 was one of the first actions of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) under General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing. It was a battle in World War I as part of the Second Battle of the Marne.
