The US fought against Germany in two wars, World War I and World War II. In World War I, the United States joined the war because Germany had submarines along the East Coast of the US, and the US did not authorize this. Then, Germans sunk the Lusitania, a ship bound from New York to Britain. The Germans did this because they wanted to cut off all supplies from the United Kingdom. About 130 Americans perished in the sinking, and about 1200 total (however, the Germans had sunk many ships, this was the most influential though). In World War II, Japanese airplanes bombed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This was not because they wanted Hawaii, it was more of a warning saying "This is as far west as you're allowed in the Pacific." The US then joined World War II, fighting against the Axis powers (including both Germany and Japan).

How were Britain and France drawn into war with Germany in 1939?

On 1 September 1939 Germany invaded Poland, and two days later Britain and France declared war on Germany because they had a treaty with Poland in which they had undertaken to help Poland if its independence was threatened by force. They wanted to stop Germany before it became too powerful. Poland was just an excuse, the British showed how little they cared about Poland in 1945. The Soviets also invaded Poland in 1939, and nobody declared war on them. (The previous month, August 1939, the Nazis and Soviets made several secret agreements. One of the was the partition of Poland between Germany and Russia.)They had the treaty to protect Poland, but when Germany invaded Poland they didn't do anything about it therefore backing out of their treaty with Poland. but that's when France went to Britain to ask if they could help the polish and Britain said yes. so that is why France and Britain declared war on Germany. These comments are very valid. European leadership(including the United States) did not want Germany to become a powerful nation following WWI. Politically and economically many countries were insecure about German unity built on the "Volk".While all of the above points are valid, another reason France and Great Britain went to war with Germany is because they had already gotten Germany to agree twice (Munich Agreement 1938) not to invade any more places, but Germany had broken both of these agreements, so this was the "third strike".Britain and France had never wanted to declare war on Germany, full stop. They didn't want to cause another world war one where both side would lose yet another generation of young men. So they tried to use diplomacy to retain peace in Europe. Hitler felt when he took power in 1933 that the Slavs and the east was the true enemy to the Germans and tried to get an alliance with Britain against communism as in his book "mein kaumf". But when they declined, Hitler invaded Poland on September 1st. Originally it was set for 21st August but was put back because of the weather. But on the 23rd, Britain, France and Poland signed a treaty that created an alliance between these counties. When the Germans invaded Poland, Britain gave Germany 48 hours to pull out or a state of war would exist between the two counties. So at 12.00 on 3rd September after no response to the ultimatum was heard Britain declared war followed by France at 15.45Britain was unable to do anything practical to help Poland. Britain had no direct access to Eastern Central Europe. At best Britain could have helped by proxy, for example if they, together with the French, had attacked Germany in the West. It has sometimes been pointed out that the declaration of war in 1939 was a moral gesture or some kind of grandstanding or possibly an attempt of some kind to "put right" the mistake of the previous year at Munich. The actual "casus belli" or grounds for war weren't well chosen. (In May 1939, Churchill and Lloyd George had expressed doubts about the guarantee to Poland when it came before Parliament. Churchill suggested that Britain had chosen the wrong ally, and that it would make better sense to try to negotiate a treaty with the Soviet Union).

What did the treaty of Versailles leave unsolved at the end of World War 1?

Since Germany started WW1 and miserably lost due to their economy and unplanned attacks on France (without thinking of the repercussion of the UK having signed a treaty of self-defense with both Belgium and France.) The Germans had a good idea of first declaring war on Belgium then France (they where mainly focused on a quick French defeat attacking Belgium's neutral position but could attack from their German-French borders due to the Alps and many forests) and the fact that they knew that the Russians where going to help the British and French (due to their treaty) but the Russians were very poor and many were unequipped So to fast-forward a bit, the British beat Germany and made them relinquish many mineral filled territories to their neighboring countries. To get back on the original question:The three major superpowers (USA, Great Britain, and France - note Russia was kicked out due to signing a secret treaty with Germany not so long ago before the Treaty of Versailles) wanted to be ultimately safe from Germany in case WW2 triggers. The USA was protected by the Atlantic Ocean so that wasn't a problem, Britain was protected by the English Channel that not even Napoleon could touch Britain, but France was determined to weaken Germany by taking Rhineland, and area of rich materials and were planning to make a 'puppet-state'. France complained that Britain and the USA were protected by bodies of water but France was protected by a line drawn on the ground.

Why did great Britain become involved in the World War 1?

Great Britain became involved in World War I primarily due to its commitments to defend Belgium's neutrality following Germany's invasion of Belgium in August 1914. Additionally, the complex system of alliances in Europe, particularly the Entente Cordiale with France and Russia, meant that Britain was drawn into the conflict to support its allies against the Central Powers. The rising tensions and arms buildup in Europe also contributed to Britain's decision to enter the war, as it sought to maintain its status as a global power.

What event made Britain enter world war 1?

Officially, it was the German invasion of Belgium. Britain and Belgium had been allies for around 70 years when the war began. Additionally, since France and Germany had been enemies in the past, their border was heavily fortified on both sides, but Belgium's borders were not as heavily fortified. When the war began, Germany asked Belgium for permission to go through their territory; Belgium said no. So Germany did it anyway and conquered Belgium. When Germany launched their invasion, Britain honored their old alliance with Belgium and officially declared war.
