Generally speaking abolitionists meant people in favor of abolishing slavery in the United States and in any territories owned by the US. In the Northern US States, the average citizen, may have been against slavery, however, they did not see it as a main issue, ( before the US Civil War ).
There was no widespread hatred of abolitionists in the North. In the Southern States where most of the slaves lived, Southerners saw slavery as a way of life. It could be said that for the most part they had a strong disdain for people against slavery.
As an aside, however, even abolitionists did not consider slaves to be equal to Whites.
Northern abolitionists.
Most of them didn't. The Abolitionists did. But most Northerners were not Abolitionists, and were just exasperated that all of this was bringing war nearer.
Generally the North.
Yes, they helped organize the Southern routes for the Underground Railroad and secretly helped slaves escape to freedom in the North.
Were undermining fundamental American beliefs.
Southerners hated abolitionists because they would speak out against slavery. If there was no slaves than no one would work the fields for the rich men.
Northern abolitionists.
They're called abolitionists because they wanted to abolish slavery. They hated it, thought it was morally wrong, and wanted it to end. They were usually northerners or previously slaved southerners

My pick would be the 1994 film "North" which Roger Ebert hated so much and he used the word "hated" ten times in his review.
because slavery was always with africans and so the abolitionists couldn't ignore it. They payed so much attention to it, that when the compromise of 1850 was put in i increased abolitionists againest slavery. They hated slavery because usally they were africans too, or white and thought everyone should have equal rights and freedom. ;]
