He did so much it is hard to choose. He had the most just and enlightened government that Europe had known since Theodoric the Goth. He made laws for agriculture, industry, finance, education, and religion as well as government and morals.

To choose one thing, it was probably the creation of the Carolingian Empire, which was ancestral to both the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire. It was the largest nation in Western Europe since the fall of the West Roman Empire.
