This was a national celebration in honor the the 50th anniversary of the invention of a commercially viable light bulb. It took place in October of 1929. Edison himself participated in the festivities in Dearborn, Michigan. In Chicago thousands of people gathered near the Buckingham Fountain to see a spectacular display of lights, and messages in sky-writing to congratulate Edison.
