it started around the 1800's.
The modern observances of Halloween are more recent than one might expect. The holiday had a rebirth in North America between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, probably through an influx of Irish immigrants. They brought with them traditions that combined features of the Celtic and Christian holidays, and celebrated with feasting, divination's and mischief making.
Jack O' lanterns and trick or treating in costume both became Halloween fixtures in North America, and have since been exported.
well
Halloween is different dates in different places. No one knows this as they just celebrate it at the same time as the US. The real reason for Halloween was to scare away all the bad and evil spirits foe winter. As Australia is another side of the world when its our winter its the US's summer etc. So on the 31st of October the Us is going into winter so that is when they celebrate it. On the 31st of October Australia is going into summer so they is celebrating its at the wrong time. The date that Australia should be celebrating it is when we are going into our winter which is the 31st of may. Australia is shouldn't really be celebrating Halloween. They really just copied the US. But is it fun, so who cares.
Halloween culture can be tracked back to Mexican culture. The Mexicans made Halloween what it is today by celebrating the day of the dead on October 31st.
