It's a bit of a misnomer that Prince Albert introduced the Christmas tree to Britain. This has come about however, by the publicity at the time of Queen Victoria's reign and has entered English folklore and unfortunately some publications.
The Georgian's were the first royals to introduce the Christmas tree. A tree was erected at Queen's Lodge, Windsor, by Queen Charlotte, the German born wife of George III, for a party she held on Christmas Day, 1800, for the children of the leading families in Windsor. This fact is on record, so Queen Charlotte rather than Prince Albert takes the accolade for this festive first.
The Christmas Tree was introduced to England by Queen Victoria's husband Albert and his family. It was a German tradition (as they were German) and it was adopted by the country, who were fascinated with the tradition of bringing trees indoors and decorating them elaborately.
German merchants who were living in England decorated their homes with Christmas Trees. Decorations had been made in Germany since the 17th century and there were English people who had trees before Queen Victoria was ever featured in the news with her Christmas Tree.

Because he was German, and Christmas trees were popular in Germany.
Christmas Trees first came to England with the Georgian Kings who came from Germany. Due to the unpopularity of the German Monarchy, the practice was not copied at Court. In 1846, the popular Royals, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, were depicted in illustrations in the London News standing with their children around a Christmas Tree. As a result the Christmas tree became popular both in Britain and also with fashion-conscious East Coast American Society.
