What happens if you swallow a pop tab?

Earlier this morning i swallowed a soda tab. I called the doctor and went to the hospital. 500 dollors later, i found out that it is just gonna come out the other end.

But sharp edges on the tab could cause damage to internal organs. Objects like this could also cause a blockage and/or subsequent infection of the digestive tract. Generally speaking, it is not a good idea to have a tab in your mouth anyway.
