Blue Pickerel can be two different things. First, the most common, is the plant Pontederia cordata

  • Growing height: 18-30".
  • Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
  • Blue flowers spring through fall.
  • Glossy heart-shaped leaves are highlighted by blue flower spikes. Long blooming season. This is one of the most popular plants in a water garden.
  • Also known as; Pickerel Weed.

Second, is the fish Sander vitreus glaucus, declared extinct in the Campbell Status Report of 1985. The last fish officially recognized as a Blue Pickerel by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources was caught in 1965.
