There is no degree needed to become a mig welder. It would be a good idea to at least take some welding instruction in high school if it is available or training at a vocational school if you can afford it. This will give you a better chance at landing a job than a person of comparable age and experience. More importantly to being good at welding is the ability to keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open. That way you will learn from the journeymen who are willing to teach the tricks of the trade. Rarely will they waste their time and effort on someone who already knows it all.
