in the United Kingdom you are considered an adult in some respects at the age of 16

. For example you can drive a moped and a car if you are on diasibilty allowence (higher rate). You are allowed to have beer, wine or cider with a meal in a pub if with an adult (england and Wales) while in Scotland without an adult. you can leave home and you parents are no longer responsible for you and can kick you out at any time. you can get a job and pay taxes and can legally possess tobbaco as well as play the lottery. However you cannot purchase ciggarrettes, buy alcohol or vote till you turn 18 and cannot drive a unrestricted motorbike till the age of 24 or drive a HGV till you turn 21.
