Ohio Mechanic's liens cannot be renewed. They expire on the sixth anniversary of the date they were filed. This does not mean that you don't still have a contract right to collect your money, although Ohio just shortened the statute of limitations from 15 years on written contracts entered into prior to the effective date of the statute, to 8 years. Verbal contracts are even shorter and would have likely expired by the expiration date of the Ohio Mechanic's Lien.

Check my website. I have several articles and videos on mechanic's liens.

In Minnesota does a mechanics lien supersede a first lien holder?

A first lien holder is usually the lender or mortgage holder. Mechanics or Construction Liens do not supercede any lien placed before them or mortgage recorded after the lien is filed. In Minnesota mechanics liens are only enforceable for one year after the last day of service. Any lien holder, regardless of where they are in priority, can file to enforce their lien at anytime during that one year period.

Do judgment liens expire in Ohio?

In Ohio, judgment liens do not have a specific expiration date; however, they can be renewed. A judgment itself is valid for 7 years, and a creditor can file for a renewal before the expiration of that period to extend the lien for an additional 5 years. If the creditor does not renew the judgment, the lien may become unenforceable after the original judgment period ends.
