How why and when was slavery outlawed?

It was not established, as that word is commonly used. Slavery has existed worldwide throughout human history. Only its ELIMINATION was "established" by plan and concerted action and only within the last 200 years.

Because it was bad.

: It certainly was. And it came to be regarded as an affront to the dignity of all mankind. And more specifically, the slave traders themselves conducted themselves in such a manner as to outrage any who saw how they did it.

And more pragmatically, free labor has a hard time competing with slave labor, so any man not a slave has a vested economic interest in prohibiting slavery.

But ultimatey, it was banned for one reason, and pretty much one reason alone. The tireless efforts of British Minister of Parliament William Wilburforce. His efforts more than anything else were responsible for the abolition of the slave trade.
