Regulators.
The Regulators
Vigilante groups formed in North Carolina in the 1760s called themselves the "Regulators." They emerged in response to issues such as corruption and abuse of power by local officials and the colonial government. The Regulators sought to reform the colonial administration and address grievances related to taxation and land disputes, often resorting to extralegal actions to achieve their goals. Their activities ultimately led to conflicts, notably the Battle of Alamance in 1771.
