In the modern era it would undoubtedly be "The Holacaust" but in ancient times there may have been equally as bad offenses (what we now call "war crimes"), committed during the Crusades, or by the warring tribes of ancient Europe or Asia.

Back then they weren't considered to be "crimes," it was simply just the way that war was waged. When you waged war, you not only killed your enemy fighters, you killed ALL your enemies - men, women and children.
