The Pan Am Flight 103 disaster was the destruction of a Boeing 747 in flight over Lockerbie, Scotland, in December of 1988. A bomb on board caused critical damage to the forward end of the aircraft, and the front section (including the flight deck and first class compartment) tore away from the rest of the fuselage. The 247 passengers, 12 crew members and 11 townspeople of Lockerbie were killed in the disaster. A link can be found below.

Ambulances, (as well as fire crews and other first responders) were called in during the Lockerbie disaster to treat injured townspeople. There was no hope for the passengers and crew of Pan Am Flight 103, which came apart at about 31,000 feet, and particularly as the last 19,000 feet of the descent were vertical. Eleven Lockerbie residents were killed when pieces of the Boeing 747 fell on and around Lockerbie, Scotland.
