According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report, Louisiana with 12.5 murders per 100,000; with the closest competitor at 9.0 and the lowest at .6 per 100,000.

International rates are more difficult based on the reliability of the reporting countries. Countries reporting homicides may or may not include assault leading to death, infanticide and assisted suicide or euthanasia; homicide Demographics are affected by varying levels in trauma care, or may be under reported based on politics.

The statistics are the product of The Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development, lead by Switzerland, and many of the countries in the report were not signatories to the organization until after 2000. Their statistics show that Swaziland lead that year with 88.6 per 100,000, followed by Columbia at 63. The next closest countries were Honduras and South Africa, both at 50 per 100,000. The US for all states was at 5.5 per 100,000 as reported to the committee by the FBI and Dept. of Justice. See the link below for the full list with links to the sources for the reported numbers.
