Freedom of speech is addressed in the First Amendment to the Constitution:

Amendment I

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

The Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection Clause applies the First Amendment to the States (they cannot make unconstitutional laws infringing free speech).

Please note that this freedom is not absolute; the government can impose some limited restrictions on free speech for the safety of individuals or the community.
