2 deaths from death penalties in 2008, both by hangings.
There were two individuals who were the last people to get the death penalty in Canada. Those two individuals were Arthur Lucas and Robert Turpin. Both were on death row for murder charges.
Actually, opinions on this vary. But the tendency, nowadays, is that a majority of people think that the death penalty is uncivilized. Some arguments against the death penalty is that it is used disproportionately against ethnic minorities (for example, black people in the United States), and that it is irreversible (and there have been many cases where people executed, or people who were planned to be executed, turned out to be innocent). For further arguments, both for and against the death penalty, I suggest you consult the Wikipedia article on "Death penalty".
it wasn't philosophers it was an Indian religion
They are both people that like to kill people that are in their way. But Robespierre was not a fan of the death penalty
Murder is top of the list. It typically does not have a statute of limitations associated with it. Rape is usually second. Both can rate the death penalty.
There are many arguments on both sides of the question, and I suspect that the side you come down on will depend as much on emotion and cultural background as on rationally weighing the facts. Given the incidence of murder in societies that have the death penalty, it is obviously not always a deterrent.
Well I think all punishment decreases crime rates but I think the death penalty decreases the most amount of crime. However, it remains extremely difficult to show a relationship between crime rates and the death penalty, and it's questionable whether a criminal that would be willing commit a crime that is punishable by life in prison would be deterred by a possible death penalty. The stakes are so high in both cases that the punishment likely isn't a determinate on whether the criminal will proceed.
Octavian and Marc Antony avenged Caesar's death at the battle of Philippi, where they defeated the armies of Brutus and Cassius. Brutus and Cassius both committed suicide after their loss.
