There are three legal jurisdictions in the United Kingdom;- English and Welsh law Scots Law Northern Irish law Each has it's own system of Law lords, Judges and Magistrates (Sheriffs in Scotland).

Australia's legal system was basically adopted from the British legal system along with common law.

It gave the the frame work of a parliamentary system based on the British system, as well as powers and responsibility of taxation, defense, navigation, banking, health, postal system, legal systems and many other things Britain used to be responsible for. Freedom from British control was not allowed.
