Providing a workplace free from harassment is one of the basic responsibilities of an employer.
WHMIS stands for Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System. It is a comprehensive system for providing information on hazardous materials used in the workplace, including labels and safety data sheets.
The employer is responsible for providing a workplace that is safe and free from recognized hazards.
OSHA, a US federal agency, does not have regulations that set a maximum or minimum temperature for the workplace. The employer is responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace, but that does not necessarily include a comfortable workplace.
Workplace and consumer label
The suppliers of hazardous materials are responsible for providing the WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to the employer. This ensures that employers have the necessary information to inform and protect their employees from potential hazards associated with those materials. Employers must then ensure that this information is accessible to all employees working with or around hazardous substances.
Employers are responsible for ensuring that WHMIS provides the protection it was designed to in the workplace. This includes proper implementation, training of employees, and maintaining up-to-date safety data sheets and labels. Employees also play a role in following safe work practices and protocols as outlined in the WHMIS training.
If a person is escorted in the workplace, that person's safety is the responsibility of the person providing the escort. That includes ensuring the the escorted person does not take any actions that would put himself or others at increased risk.
