if by street sweeper, you mean automatic, then no unless you have a special firearm license.. semi-auto shot guns are legal, however

A Streetsweeper is a 12 guage, 12 shot semiautomatic shotgun. It was reclassified as a destructive device in 1999 and requires an owner to register it with ATF within 30 days of learning of this requirement. Anyone not registering it can have it seized and be fined up to $250,000 and face up to 10 years in prison. You can legally buy one from a Class III dealer by paying the $200.00 transfer tax and filing the correct ATF paperwork.

This may still be true and it may not. As you can buy 12 and 20 round drums and magazines for the Russian made sagia 12 and 20 gauge semi auto shotguns built on the AK 47 gas piston design. There are currently no restrictions on the sale or purchase of these guns and mags other than for standard long gun sales. They are just as capble of being destructive as the old drum streetsweeper 12 gauge.

The legality of street sweeper shotguns varies by country and region. In the United States, specifically, the original Street Sweeper shotgun with a revolving cylinder magazine has been classified as a destructive device and is subject to strict regulations under the National Firearms Act. It is important to research and understand the specific laws governing firearms in your area.

In a move to specifically ban the Amstel Stryker, Protecta, and copies of them, any shotgun with a fixed magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds. This legislation was put in place specifically to target those shotguns. The reason you can get magazines with such capacities for the Saiga shotgun is because they were never considered - when the reclassification was made in 1999, the Clinton ban - which, among other things, prohibited the sale of magazines with more than a 10 round capacity to civilians - was in effect, and the supporters of the bill - who probably expected Al Gore to win in 2000 and make the Clinton ban permanent - simply did not anticipate them.

Why is a street sweeper shotgun class III?

The decision was most likely politically motivated, as evidenced by the fact that while semi auto shotguns with a fixed magazine capacity of more than five rounds (such as the Amstel Stryker and Protecta - the ones typically referred to as the 'street sweeper' - and the Franchi SPAS 12, you can buy 30 round detachable drums for the Saiga shotguns.
