Plantation owners demonstrated trust in slaves by assigning them supervisory roles over other slaves, allowing them to handle money or valuable items, and permitting them to work outside the plantation unsupervised. These actions were usually based on the belief that the slaves would not betray their owners due to the fear of punishment or societal conditioning.
It is likely that Bill joined in the beating to avoid punishment himself or to show loyalty to the slave owners. In a system where power dynamics were heavily skewed and survival was a primary concern, slaves often felt pressured to conform and participate in acts of violence against their fellow slaves.

They did show resistance and the slaves showed the resistance in many ways. They would fight against their masters and slave owners. Many slaves were granted their freedom when their master died as a provision in his will. I believe a slave could also buy his freedom. They were usually freed when they were around 30 (manumission) Also when their master was very pleased and very kind he would set him free. eg. if you were a kind master and you were being mugged, and a slave saves you, you might free that slave. Question of my own: How would a master show that he freed his slave??
There is no Master Chief show. There is a character called Master Chief in the Halo games and there is an American cooking show called Master Chef. Master Chef information is on the Food Network site.
It is Ticket Master. Enjoy the show!
